Garage Door Weather Seal Replacement

Gaps at the bottom or sides can let in drafts, leaves and water. The right repair depends on the seal, door alignment and the condition of the opening.

Find Where the Gap Starts

A torn bottom seal is different from a door that does not close evenly. Look from a safe position for visible light around the opening and explain whether the gap is at the center, one corner or both sides. Track adjustment, a sloped floor or a worn retainer may affect the solution.

Match the Seal and Retainer

Bottom seals come in different attachment profiles and sizes. Side and top weatherstripping also need to fit the opening without putting unnecessary pressure on the door. A threshold may help in some situations, but it does not correct drainage problems or a badly aligned door.

Set Realistic Expectations

Weather seals help reduce ordinary gaps; they do not make a garage floodproof. If water regularly flows toward the opening, discuss grading and drainage separately. The door still needs to travel freely and its safety reversal must remain functional.

Common Questions

Can a seal stop all water entering the garage?

No. Wind-driven rain, a low floor or water flowing toward the opening may need additional assessment beyond a seal replacement.

Should I increase opener force to compress a seal?

Do not use force adjustments to hide a closing problem. The seal fit and door operation should be checked properly.
